Artist Statement - "Watercolor is the perfect medium for discovery. I enjoy exploring color and technique in my paintings. I have chosen nature as my subject because it lends itself so beautifully to this medium. I have loved birds all my life. Their color, texture as well as there habitats inspire me. My color schemes differ greatly from painting to painting depending on the time of day, year or just the feeling I am trying to convey in the painting. I like to use a large color pallet liberally throughout the painting to add life and sparkle. I believe our sight brings in many different colors to everything we see if we are just willing to search and enjoy. My technique ranges from wet on wet washes to wet on dry washes, dry brush, dropping in color as well as pulling out. Masking is a good tool for me and allows me to first create an interesting backdrop without compromising my subject. I have come to love watercolor because the unpredictability of the medium transforms the paintings often into something different that every expected. That is the beauty of this form of painting and is truly inspiration."
